Things to Do in Sonoma: A Local's Wine-and-Weed Guide

Sonoma County is more than a wine destination. It is redwoods, coastline, farm-to-table food, historic plazas, and, since legalization, a genuine cannabis scene that most visitors never find. We are Sonoma natives and have guided the county since 2018, so here is how we would spend your time, wine and weed included.

Taste the wine, the right way

Sonoma's appellations each have their own character. Russian River Valley is cool and foggy, famous for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Dry Creek Valley runs warmer and is Zinfandel country. Carneros, straddling Sonoma and Napa, is the sparkling-wine heartland. You do not need to see all of them. Pick two contrasting tastings in a day and you will understand the county better than someone who rushed through five.

Eat like you mean it

The Sonoma Plaza and the towns around it punch far above their size on food. Plan a long lunch rather than squeezing meals between stops. Farm-to-table is not a marketing line here; a lot of what is on the plate was grown within a few miles.

Get outside

Between tastings, Sonoma rewards anyone who steps outside. Redwood groves, regional parks, and the Sonoma Coast are all within reach, and the drive between them is half the pleasure. If you are visiting in fall, you are arriving during harvest, the county's busiest and most beautiful season.

Do the thing most visitors miss: cannabis

This is where we come in. Sonoma is one of the few places on earth where world-class wine and legal, farm-grown cannabis sit side by side. On our tours you can:

  • Visit a working cannabis farm and meet the grower, hands-on with the plants.
  • Try our Sip-and-Sniff experience, where we compare the shared terpenes of wine and cannabis side by side.
  • Tour licensed dispensaries with a guide who helps you read the menu, on the Cannabis Dispensary Tour.
  • Do it all door to door, so nobody has to drive.

If you want the wine-and-weed combination that made us the original tour in the county, the Wine and Weed Tour is the flagship.

A simple one-day plan

  • Morning: One winery tasting, ideally with a vineyard walk.
  • Midday: A long farm-to-table lunch on or near the Plaza.
  • Afternoon: A cannabis farm visit and Sip-and-Sniff, or a dispensary tour.
  • Golden hour: The coast, or a sunset ridge with a glass in hand.

We can build exactly this and drive it for you.

Good to know

Frequently asked

World-class wine, especially Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Zinfandel, plus farm-to-table food, the coast, and, more recently, legal cannabis tourism.

Yes. Recreational cannabis is legal in California for adults 21 and over, and Sonoma has licensed dispensaries, farms, and tours.

Sonoma is larger, more spread out, and more casual; Napa is more compact and polished. For wine plus cannabis, Sonoma has the deeper scene.

Two or three, not five. Fewer, better tastings beat a rushed checklist, especially if you are adding a cannabis stop.

Yes, and it is our whole reason for existing. We handle the itinerary and the driving so you can enjoy both safely.

The bottom line

Sonoma rewards people who slow down. Pick two great tastings, eat well, get outside, and add the cannabis experience most visitors never discover. When you are ready, we will plan the day and drive it. Reserve your tour.

Guests must be 21+ for cannabis experiences. Consume responsibly and per California law.
