What? Weed Delivery in Napa and Sonoma?! Customers of all kinds can get just about anything delivered these days. Food, groceries, alcohol – and now, in some parts of the world, even your favorite flower.

For locals as well as visitors to the Napa Valley, being caught unawares by a low stash is a thing of the past. Whether you smoke, vape, eat, or rub in your THC and CBD, Napa and Sonoma counties are flush with fan-favorite dispensaries offering high-quality products that you can have brought to your home, whenever you need them.

But how does cannabis delivery happen in NorCal, and what do you need to know to make it work for you? Let’s talk about it.

Everything you ever wanted to know

Cannabis delivery is a relatively new concept. The industry is still subject to many rules and regulations designed to keep it safe and available, and so using a weed delivery service may not be as straightforward as ordering a meal on DoorDash.

But we’re here to help. In the next few sections, we’ll go over some of the details of cannabis delivery to help demystify the process and let you know what you’ll need when purchasing your next cannabis delivery.

Is it legal?

Not everywhere.

State laws permit local governments to self-regulate the particulars of cannabis businesses of all types within city and county limits. This means that, while cannabis delivery is legal at the state level, it may not be within an individual county or city.

Napa County as a whole does not allow cannabis businesses of any kind to exist in unincorporated areas. But several cities within county boundaries have chosen to permit weed delivery – visitors and residents in Yountville, American Canyon, and the city of Napa still can order cannabis products to their homes.

Sonoma is the opposite. In general, cannabis businesses of any kind are legal, with just two cities standing out as deserts in an otherwise very weed-friendly county. Residents of Windsor and Rohnert park will have to suit up and leave the house if they find their stash running out.

How does it work?

The mechanics of most weed delivery experiences are the same as ordering from any other online retailer.

Customers can browse the shop’s products online, pick out what they want, enter payment information and a delivery address, hit “order,” and wait for their purchase to arrive.

Here are a few ways it’s different:

    • A quick address check. Given that weed delivery isn’t allowed in every city in both Sonoma and Napa counties, many cannabis delivery sites will ask you for a delivery address up-front so you can make extra sure that you’ll be able to receive a delivery before shopping. If you’re unsure if your home is within the limits of a city allowing cannabis delivery, checking your address on a retailer like Eaze will let you know.

    • Identification. Like alcohol, you must be over the age of 21 to legally buy cannabis from a dispensary in California. Most dispensaries that offer delivery will ask you to prove your age by uploading your ID to their system before you check out. When your delivery arrives, you will be asked to present a valid ID to the driver before they give you your purchase – there is no option for them to leave it on your porch and walk away, so you should definitely plan on being home within the delivery window.

    • Minimum purchase limit. Most dispensaries require that you buy above a certain dollar amount before they will allow you to purchase a delivery order. But don’t worry – many companies also offer free delivery for larger buys, so filling your basket is usually worth it.
    • Timing. You may be asked to choose a time slot for delivery before you click “buy” – this is to ensure that you plan to be home to receive your order.

Now that you know how weed delivery works in Napa and Sonoma counties, let’s take a look at a few local dispensaries offering delectable products brought right to your door.
